Mary Morrisey

Director of Economy and Infrastructure , Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council

Mary Morrissey is Director of Economy and Infrastructure at Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, a role she has held since February 2020. She has responsibility for the leadership and management of frontline environmental services, regeneration and inward investment, planning, housing, highways, transport, sustainability, culture, tourism and the arts and community safety.

Mary's role includes supporting Council Members to realise political direction and priorities through a strategic vision and action plan for the Directorate, consulting and engaging with key partners and stakeholders and managing financial resources and physical assets. She is a champion for communication, consultation and engagement with service users, the wider community, businesses and potential investors. Specifically since she arrived in Solihull in 2020, Mary has led discussions with HS2 on the Councils growth ambitions, centred around the proposed HS2 Interchange station in the heart of the country. She has also overseen the production of a Town Centre Master Plan and the submission of a revised Local Plan for inspection, to deliver the Councils growth ambitions to 2036. In her previous role as Strategic Director of Environment, Housing and Regeneration at the London Borough of Sutton, Mary established new models of service delivery to drive efficiency savings: a housing company, a district energy company, a housing needs LATC and a shared highways, transport and regulatory services arrangement with the London Borough of Kingston.

Mary has also worked for Coventry Council, delivering integrated street scene and parks services and was previously AD of Sustainable Services at the London Borough of Southwark, having begun her career as a quantity surveyor for Birmingham City Council.
