Leighton Hammett
Assistant Chief Constable , Cambridgeshire ConstabularyAssistant Chief Constable (ACC) Leighton Hammett joined Cambridgeshire Constabulary in the summer of 2026, building upon his successful policing career with Essex Police.
With extensive experience in investigative, operational and leadership roles in policing, ACC Hammett is a PIP3-qualified senior investigating officer for major, serious and complex crime, a Strategic Firearms Commander and a Gold Public Order Public Safety (POPS) Commander.
In his previous role as a Chief Superintendent with Essex Police, he was the Gold Commander for the Wethersfield Asylum Centre, which attracted and continues to attract significant attention at a local, regional and national level.
In his current role, ACC Hammett is responsible for local and operational policing across Cambridgeshire and plays an active role in the local resilience forum (LRF), public protection, safeguarding and community safety, working with local authority partners.

This session will explore the role of local government in preparing for and responding to emerging risks, strengthening community capacity and fostering trust.
