Tony McArdle

Lead Commissioner, Birmingham and Nottingham City Councils, former Chief Executive Lincolnshire CC

Tony was a local authority Chief Executive for both District and County councils for over twenty years.

He has since led Government interventions at councils with serious governance and financial failings. This has included Northamptonshire County Council, the London Borough of Croydon and Nottingham City Council. He is currently Lead Commissioner at Birmingham City Council.

Tony was Chief Advisor to the DfE’s negotiations with Councils facing the most challenged High Needs systems, and during Covid managed the interface between national and local government outbreak response arrangements as Director of Local Engagement and Response at NHS Test and Trace/UKHSA.

He has chaired both the Association of County Chief Executives and the body responsible for PREVENT interventions in the East Midlands. Tony was also an officer in the Army Reserve for over 20 years.
